For more than 125 years, our faculty members, staff and students have been working to advance the field of insect biology and apply that knowledge to solve problems and improve lives.
As one of the top-ranked entomology programs in the country, our work spans the globe and impacts human lives on many levels, influencing a broad range of disciplines including human and veterinary medicine, farming, biodiversity and genomics.
The Department of Entomology's mission is threefold: To pursue studies to understand basic and applied aspects of insect biology; to provide a robust and modern curriculum as part of preeminent undergraduate and graduate programs; and to inform and educate the public about the issues related to insects and other arthropods. Explore our website to find out more about the department.
Do you have an insect, or photo of one, and want to know what it is ? The Insect Diagnostic Lab can identify insects and related organisms, for a $25 fee.

My research spans four project areas: 1) Evaluation of Golf Turf Management Systems with Reduced Chemical Pesticide Inputs. A systems comparison of conventional, IPM and non-chemical management of golf course greens under both standard and alternative (stress-reducing) cultural practices, 2) Expanding the previously developed EIQ for agriculture to include turfgrass chemicals and further adapting the model to reflect turfgrass usage, exposure, and site specificity, 3) Organic amendments for Athletic Fields (with J. Lamboy) focused on comparing the effects of compost topdressing on athletic fields in four areas of the state, and 4)Understanding and Reducing Pesticide Use for Lawns, Landscapes and Homes (with J. Lamboy).P>
